Direct TV Packages – Millions Of Americans Can’t Be Wrong

Direct TV Packages – Millions Of Americans Can’t Be Wrong

A lot of satellite TV users will know the problems associated with satellite dishes and the negative effect the weather can have on signal quality.Especially rainy days where the signal is sometimes lost completely for longer periods.

Thanks to the advancement in the satellite technology field, newer satellite dish models are hardly affected by weather conditions at all, allowing for a much better viewing experience even on stormy or rainy days. The weather issues aside, satellite TV offers a much larger choice in terms of programming.

The many Direct TV packages (or any good satellite tv provider, for that matter) available offer a much larger choice of channels than digital cable has to offer.

Many of these channels are available in HD format which allows for a higher picture quality, enhancing the viewers experience. There are many advantages in choosing  Direct TV packages as opposed to a cable system.

Click the link below to view the many Direct Tv Packages available.

The most obvious reason being the higher picture quality you get with satellite and the much larger choice available with the various Direct TV packages you can choose from. Another factor is price. By choosing satellite TV over cable, you will benefit from a much larger choice of channels and better programming capabilities for less money.

Direct TV packages start at .99 a month. Millions of Americans are choosing Direct TV packages over cable these days because it just makes sense. More bang for your hard earned buck. Another deciding factor for many people in choosing satellite over cable is the lack of geographical coverage associated with cable TV providers. If you live in a remote area, then there is a high probability that cable is unavailable to you, whereas satellite TV can be obtained anywhere, regardless of geographical location.

There are plenty of Direct TV packages for you to choose from. It really just depends on what you are looking for and how much you are willing to pay. Prices range from .99 a month for the “family package” ( 50+ channels) to .99 a month for the “premier package” (285+ channels).

All Direct TV packages come with free installation and many of them are free of charge for the first 3 months. MANY ACCESSORIES AVAILABLE FOR WOODEN GARDEN SHEDS

MANY ACCESSORIES AVAILABLE FOR WOODEN GARDEN SHEDS

Once you have built your wooden garden shed there are several things you need to add to make it even better. If for example you are using your garden shed for a potting shed or garden shed then there are some things you need to add to make the gardener in your life happy. Regardless, of the use for your garden shed there are several accessories you need to add to the garden shed.

SOLAR POWERED LIGHTS ALONG THE PATH LEADING TO THE SHED – No matter what you store in your garden shed sooner or later you will find yourself needing to go the shed at night to get something you have stored in the shed. Lighting the pathway will make it much safer for you to get to the shed and to get there in a safer manner. No more tripping to get to the shed. Best of all solar powered lights come in a variety of styles to make the lighting very attractive along the pathway to your shed.

SOLAR POWERED PUMPS – If you are using a rain barrel to collect the rainfall coming off the shed you will eventually want to pump the collected rain water to some plants, shrubs, trees, or flowers. Today you can get solar powered pump kits that will allow you to pump the water to wherever you want plus you can also use the pump to pump the water into a drip irrigation system or to run a fountain. Using solar powered pumps save electricity and are the right thing for all of us to do whenever possible.

SOLAR POWERED SECURITY LIGHTS – As you approach your garden shed there is nothing better than a motion detector light coming on to light the area for you. This is a safe way to avoid tripping over garden hoses, pots etc. as you approach the shed. Even if the solar powered security light is not a motion detector type you can using get a motion detector kit to make your light a motion detector light.

HOSE REEL AND HOSE CONTAINERS – If you have landscaped around your garden shed or if you have turned your garden shed into a potting shed then you will be using water to water the plants, vines, flowers, or shrubs around or in the shed. In all likelihood you will have hoses around the garden shed and need to pick and roll those hoses up to avoid tripping and to make the area just look better. Keeping the hoses under control can be done in two ways. One, install a hose reel on the shed or sitting at the side of the shed and reel the hose in after use. The other way is for you to coil the hose up in a hose container. Either way solves the basic problem of making it safer to walk around the garden shed.

PORTABLE SINKS -  For those shed builders who do not want to add plumbing to the garden shed there are a couple of ways to use portable sinks to help out the gardener. First, you can mount a portable sink on the side of the garden shed. Second you can use a portable sink that is constructed on wheels and that can be moved around. Both types of sinks are available online today and are a great way to make watering easier for the gardener in the family.

ADD A WEATHERVANE AND A RAIN GAUGE – Adding a weathervane not only adds character to your garden shed but it also provides you with an accurate wind direction reading for your micro-climate in your back yard. Add a rain gauge so you can get accurate rain amounts for your lawn and garden. You will probably already have thought of adding a thermometer but you can also add a device to give you the wind speed. I installed a complete weather station to my shed and had it transmit to a control panel in my house. I was constantly looking at the monitor for accurate information for my area. An added value to this station was that the information could be downloaded to my computer for historical weather records for my yard.

WINDOW BOXES – Add some window boxes to your garden shed to give you some additional areas to plant flowers, starter plants, and herbs. Adding a window box also beautifies the shed.

ADD PLANTER BOXES AROUND THE SHED – Not only will planter boxes allow you to beautify the area around the shed but they also give you an area to plant starter plants in the spring. You can start your seedlings in your planter box and move them into the garden shed at night if the temperatures get too cold.

Opening trim weather strip

Opening trim weather strip

An opening trim weather strip includes a trim portion, a seal portion, and a cover lip integrally formed to the trim portion and extended to a vehicle interior side thereof. The cover lip is formed with a cover lip main body by a sponge member and formed with a cover lip skin layer formed by a solid member at a surface of the cover lip main body. A modulus of the cover lip skin layer is made to be equal to or smaller than a modulus of the cover lip main body.

The present invention relates to an opening trim weather strip attached to a vehicle body opening peripheral part of a vehicle body of an automobile for sealing a gap between the vehicle body opening peripheral part and an automobile door, particularly relates to an opening trim weather strip which is provided with a cover lip and in which at least a main body of the cover lip is formed by a sponge member.

An opening trim weather strip 110 attached to a vehicle body opening peripheral part of a vehicle body of an automobile is molded by extrusion and is constituted by a trim portion 120, a cover lip 130 and a hollow seal portion 140 as shown byFIG. 5.

The trim portion 120 holds the opening trim weather strip 110 over an entire periphery of a vehicle body opening by clamping a flange portion formed at a vehicle body opening peripheral part 6. The trim portion 120 is formed by a solid member ora slightly foamed member, inside thereof is embedded with an insert member 126, an inner face thereof is formed with a vehicle exterior side hold lip 124 and a vehicle interior side hold lip 125 for holding the flange portion to thereby hold the flangeportion of the vehicle body.

The hollow seal portion 140 is formed integrally with a vehicle exterior side of the trim portion 120 for sealing a gap between a door 2 and the vehicle body opening peripheral part 6 by being brought into contact with an outer periphery of thedoor 2 when the door 2 is closed. The hollow seal portion 140 is formed with a sponge member to be flexibly brought into contact with the door 2 in accordance with a shape thereof to firmly seal.

The cover lip 130 is extended in a vehicle interior direction from a portion on a vehicle interior side of the trim portion 120, brought into contact with a garnish or the like provided at inside of a vehicle to thereby cover a gap between theopening trim weather strip 110 and the garnish or the vehicle body. The cover lip 130 is formed by a solid member, or a slightly foamed member similar to the trim portion 120, further, a surface of the cover lip 130 is provided with a skin layer 133made of a thermoplastic elastomer of a solid member for garnishment (refer to, for example, JP-A-8-174620, JP-A-2001-130264 and JP-A-2001-246991).

In recent years, light-weight formation of an automobile has been requested for protecting a global environment and it is also requested to light-weight the opening trim weather strip 110 for the light-weight formation of an automobile. Aspecific weight of the solid member for forming the trim portion 120 and the cover lip 130 is about 1.2, a specific weight of the slightly foamed member is about 0.95 through 1.05, and therefore, it is requested to constitute the specific weight by about0.5 through 0.8 by the sponge member by further foaming.

However, the opening trim weather strip 110 is attached to an entire periphery of the vehicle body opening peripheral part 6 of an automobile to be along therewith, and therefore, the opening trim weather strip 110 is bent to be attached theretoat a corner portion. At that occasion, in a case of forming the main body of the cover lip 130 by the sponge member for the light-weight formation as described above, when the skin layer 133 is formed by the solid member in correspondence with the trimportion of the solid member, the slightly foamed member of the background art, there is a concern that the skin layer 133 cannot follow elongation of the main body of the cover lip 130, wrinkles are produced at the surface of the bent cover lip 130 andan appearance thereof is deteriorated.

Therefore, it is desired to provide an opening trim weather strip in which wrinkles are not produced at a surface of a cover lip even when a light-weight opening trim weather strip is attached by being bent at a corner portion and which isexcellent in appearance and can easily and inexpensively be fabricated.

Bakeries and Email Marketing Program

Bakeries and Email Marketing Program

You can visualize how people float into your bakery, attracted by that intoxicating and pleasurable sent of fresh baked goods. Think about it: if all those people were all signing up to your email marketing program promotions you’d be reaching a check of a lot more people and bringing in more in sales. By mixing the power of that smell (an unparalleled marketing technique) with an email marketing program (the best tool for refining and expanding your customer base), you can draw-in more business. The main thing is to start amassing a list of emails, and send them out in a timely fashion. When you start sending out promotions involving your catering for bigger customer orders, people will start ordering your services.

So here’s where you begin: collect a list of emails. When the weather is springy or just before the weekend, you can have a “promotional bonanza” (or whatever you want to call it). Don’t forget, after work, people love the feeling that a baker’s dough fills them with. Have a few batches of your best bagels, or your tastiest cookies, wafting through the streets and give out a few free samples. Those customers will really appreciate it!

As you already now, people will automatically be attracted to your store by the incredible smells. Giving out free samples and coupons in exchange for sign-ups for your catering promotional newsletters is one way to improve your client base. By offering them a sweet croissant or a bagel “on the house”, AND promotions for future purchases, you will leave your customer with a good taste in their mouths. It’s hard to forget a good deal that is also tasty!

Also, if you have a web site you can include a free sign up box that will invite the people who are on the site to sign up for in-store promotions. These people will automatically be added to your email marketing program subscriber lists for future email marketing program campaigns.

After whetting your customers’ appetite with your tasty baked goods, the next step is to sign up for an email marketing program account. Signing up is simple, because most email marketing programs are designed with the idea of keeping things as easy as can be, so that anyone can use them. Now, search through the professionally-created templates and start your first campaign.

Building your campaign is also an easy process. An email marketing program gives you user-friendly templates so that all you have to do is input your text (or you can copy and paste it, if you want), and add your images. Here are a few tricks to think about when using your email marketing program to create a campaign: Do not use too much bolding, italics, and capital lettering in the main body portion or the subject line of your email.

Also, try not to put too many pictures of your products without also balancing those images with text content to support the images. Symbols like exclamation points or dollar signs in your subject line should also be avoided. All these techniques, commonly used to attract attention, also end up attracting spam filters. If you overuse them, your email will not go into your subscribers’ inbox, but rather into their spam or junk mail box.
When you are ready, click a button to schedule your email marketing program, and it will automatically go out to the people on your list at the date and time you selected.

Now that your email marketing program campaign is finished and has arrived in your customers’ inbox, you will be able to track which of your clients were interested in your marketing campaign. One of the great things about an email marketing program is that it can track ‘clicks’, and ‘opens.’ This gives you a percentage breakdown and analysis of which of your customers are opening and clicking on the promotions you have in your email. Also, by adding a ‘forward to friend’ button, you will be able increase your mailing list, and have a greater chance to have more customers.

As a bakery owner or operator, using an email marketing program will have a large impact on the growth of your client base. By giving out promotions regarding your catering services or services for larger functions, Email Marketing Program can provide you with added business and potentially grow your client base over time. Timing will make this form of marketing that much successful. This is a cost effective way to make more dough!

Rudy Barell is a Senior Account Executive with Elite Email, the complete email marketing program package used by bakeries and caterers around the world. History Of Fashion: Ancient Rome

History Of Fashion: Ancient Rome

The legend tells that Rome was founded on April 21, 753 BC, by the twin sons of Mars, Romulus and Remus. Romulus killed his brother over the throne and became the sole ruler of Rome. He reigned until 715 BC, when he was succeeded by Numa Pompilius, the founder of Roman law and its religious practices.

With time, Roman power, influence and territory grew to unprecedented proportions in the ancient world. By the end of the Republic (31 BC), Rome controlled the entire Mediterranean. They defeated their most powerful rivals, the Carthaginians, and took over many of the lands ruled by the Greeks, including Egypt. Although, eventually ancient Rome was sacrificed at the altar of its own internal struggles for power, it was not before it had written its name under one of the most important periods in humankind’s history. Two thousand years later, ancient Rome remains an endless inspiration of art, culture, architecture, and even fashion.

Costume

Roman costume was influenced by the styles of previous civilizations, such as the Etruscans and the Greeks, and also reflected the dress of conquered peoples, although in a lesser degree. It comprised two main categories: indutus, items that were put on, and amictus, clothing wrapped or draped around the body. The wide range of climates that existed within the vast Roman Empire led to the creation of the seasonal dressing concept. Dress was adapted to the specific seasons and weather conditions.

Women’s clothing

Women’s clothes were made of light materials and in a variety of colors, which set them apart from men’s clothes. Also, unlike men’s dress, women’s clothes changed little. The primary garment was the stola, a long tunic with full sleeves. It was made from wool, cotton or linen, with the more expensive designs made from silk. The stola was worn with a girdle known as cingulum and a wide belt, known as a succinda. With the help of these, women achieved to create a double-bloused effect. Under the stola women wore a bust bodice – the strophium, and a sleeveless shift dress – the subucula.

Roman matrons wore wide tunics, pleated into tiny folds, which were held together at the shoulder by a series of buttons along the sleeve.

The palla was a warm piece of cloth with a hood, fastened with a clasp. Another outer garment was the sapparum, worn by women of the upper class, which had short sleeves, and the olicula, which basically was a short cape.

Men’s clothing

In the early days of the Republic, Roman men wore a simple linen loincloth known as the subligaculom or licinium. By the time of the empire, only athletes and workmen were permitted to wear loincloths. Romans, unlike the Greeks, were not tolerant of nudity. They did, however, inherit from them their two main garments: the tunic and the cloak. The basic short-sleeved tunic consisted of two pieces of wool cloth joined at the shoulders and down the sides, with slits for the head and arms. It was gathered at the waist with a belt, but could also be worn with a girdle.

There were different tunic styles for different occasions and social ranks. Magistrates wore the Tunica angusti clavi, which had two narrow purple stripes on each shoulder. The Tunica laticlavia, worn by senators, featured wider purple stripes. Made from purple silk and embroidered with gold thread, the Tunica palmata was worn by victorious generals. It consisted of two pieces and was worn together with the Toga picta. There were also other tunics, such as the Tunica recta, the Subucula and Tunica exteriodum, and the Caracaila.

The most important mantle was the toga, which was descended from the Greek himation and the Etruscan tebenna. The draped, elliptically shaped woolen piece of fabric was reserved for Roman citizens; slaves, foreigners, and lower classes were forbidden from wearing it. The toga’s decoration, color and shape denoted the wearer’s social rank. As did the manner in which the toga was draped.

The different forms of togas included the Toga picta, which signified victory and was worn by Roman generals on specific occasions. This toga was property of the state and only loaned to generals for ceremonial wear. Another toga was the Toga candida, which was worn by candidates for public office. Mourners wore the Toga pulla, which was either black, dark brown or gray, and had a head cover. The solid purple Toga trabea was worn by spiritual men. The same toga with purple and crimson stripes was reserved for the augurs or omens interpreters, while the purple and white one revealed the rulers of the Republic.

With the expansion of the Empire, Rome came to include in its territories much of northern Europe, which translated into harsher climatic conditions. Warm outer garments became a necessity. The Roman wardrobe included the sagum – a blanket-like wrap, taken from the Gauls; the lacerna, a rectangular piece of wool, draped over the shoulders, which had to be fastened with a clasp; the pallum – or women’s palla – was a short rectangular cloak, influenced by the Greek himation; the paludanentum, was an enlarged version of the Greek chlamys, worn by Roman generals.

Surviving Severe Weather

Surviving Severe Weather

Severe weather occurs year round throughout the world.  Tornados, hurricanes, tsunamis, thunderstorms, micro-bursts, lightening and flooding; they are occurring every day somewhere on our planet.

Natural occurring severe weather has caused millions of deaths throughout history.  You may be asking yourself, millions, is that possible?  Consider that the great Indian Ocean tsunami tragedy in 2004 in and around Indonesia, killed approximately 300,000 people and in 1970 a cyclone in Bangladesh drowned over 500, 000 people.

What can we do to keep from being a victim of severe weather?  I can sit here and mention numerous steps people can utilize to survive natures many volatile threats.  However, individuals can access numerous websites or contact governmental agencies to find specific strategies they can utilize to protect themselves.  Consequently, this article will not go down that typical route of assistance that most people are used to.

However, what this article will discuss is the simple most important thing you and I can do to protect ourselves from severe weather, which is to simply be…aware.  As an example, it is a fact that modern technology gives us an extraordinary amount of time before a hurricane hits an area.  Tornados, which are natures most powerful storms (wind wise), can many times, also be forecast in advance.

Thunderstorms, flooding and tsunamis are all similar; they all can and are predicted well in advance.  The tsunami tragedy mentioned above was not handled well by authorities; however, we will never see such poor advance warning again.  Since that tragedy, the powers-that-be are on top of tsunamis and give solid warnings in advance of the possible deadly waves that may be coming.

The single best thing you and I can do to protect ourselves from severe weather is to be aware of our surroundings.  It is similar to that of being aware of our surroundings to help ourselves from falling victim to criminals.

If the outside weather looks concerning to you, tune into your local media outlet.  Radio and television stations are anxious about offering great services to their listeners (that’s how they get and keep listeners and consequently make money) and they will let you know what severe weather may be coming your way.  For instance, many local television stations are renowned for being right-on with predicting severe weather and helping people stay safe.  And similarly, there are many quality radio stations doing a great job as well.

Consider buying a Weather Radio which will notify you of impending severe weather even if you and your family are sleeping.  An alarm sounds notifying you of severe weather danger in your area.  These radios are inexpensive and may be purchased for less than thirty dollars.

In some areas it may be difficult to get to media outlets for warnings, as an example while camping or on vacation.  In such cases, keep aware and keep an eye on the weather and again, if it looks at all concerning make contingency plans for a severe weather possibility.  Keep an eye out for any nearby shelter just in case dangerous winds, lightening or flooding come your way.

While there are numerous specifics we can do to keep safe from nature’s wrath almost none of them are as important as simply being aware of what may be heading your way.

Are Air Conditioners Good Dehumidifiers?

Are Air Conditioners Good Dehumidifiers?

Although the air conditioner is here almost for a century, the market for the device, especially the domestic market, is seeing a surge that it had never seen before. This can be attributed to various reasons. While some claim that more people these days have more disposable income which allows them to invest on these devices, there are others who believe that global warming and increased temperatures all over have pushed the sales for air conditioners upwards.

Whatever may be the reason, the fact is that sales have increased and those who are in the business of selling air conditioners are trying to make the most of this opportunity. This would make them claim things which are not completely true. They can even claim that air conditioners come with features, which upon investigation might prove to be completely false. So guard against what you are being told. It is your duty to be mindful. If you are duped, much of the blame rests with you.

Many air conditioner sales person would claim that their air conditioner dehumidify the air. Let us examine how much truth is there in their claim. It is a fact that air conditioners do actually dehumidify the air to a certain extent. The evaporator coil inside the air conditioner which is a below the dewpoint can actually condense the water vapor from the air that is being processed. So when the processed air is released into the room it is devoid of the water vapor that was there in earlier.

But this is by no way the primary function of the air conditioner. Its job is to maintain a temperature. That it dehumidifies is a bonus. But since dehumidifying is not its job, the amount of dehumidification it actually achieves is also limited. This can vary from anything between 40% to 60%.

If you are really keen on dehumidifying the air of your room then you must invest on a dehumidifier itself, a device dedicated to this job. The results you will achieve are much better.

So while buying an air conditioner, keep in mind why you are buying it. It is not for dehumidifying. If however, you feel that your conditioner does enough of dehumidifying and you are happy with what the air conditioner achieves then it is good for you. but never ever buy an air conditioner with the misconception that it will double-up as the dehumidifier.

Energy Efficient Dehumidifiers — Ideas for Cutting Dampness Problems Without Spending a Fortune

Energy Efficient Dehumidifiers — Ideas for Cutting Dampness Problems Without Spending a Fortune

It seems almost everyone has basement dampness problems. Where does all that water come from?

Humidity can enter your house naturally in the air, in warm weather through open doors and windows, and through air leakage when the heat or AC is on, such as poorly sealed windows and doors, cracks in exterior wall plaster in older houses, cracks in upstairs ceilings, or attic hatches that lack proper weatherstripping. Anything that draws air out of your house, such as a woodstove, exhaust fan, or a low- or mid-efficiency furnace, will also pull outdoor air in.

So one way you can reduce moisture is to restrict the flow of fresh air, especially during humid weather.

Water can enter through your basement walls from outside. You need to direct surface water away, seal the outside of the foundation, improve drainage below the foundation, and you may even need to seal the inside of the masonry wall as well.

Aspects of your own daily life such as breathing, sweating, showering and cooking, can also create moisture when the house is closed up. The daily activities of inhabitatns can add as much as 20 gallons of water a day to your house.

Rain collecting in your driveway, or pouring out of an eaves trough, makes its way downhill. If the soil is porous around your foundation, or if there is a gap between the pavement and the house, the water will percolate through the ground or the crack until it meets the water table or is otherwise halted. Once it can’t flow down, it flows across, which is when it starts seeping through your foundation walls.

So keep surface water away from the walls of your house. Keep eaves troughs cleaned out and properly angled, and downspouts in working order with their outflow running away from the house. Your driveway should slope away from your house, or you can run a line of mortar along the gap between the driveway and the house to keep water that accumulates in the driveway from working its way down along your foundation walls.

Gardens, lawns, and other surfaces should also draw water away from your home, and if you have a sump pump it should drain far from the house as well.

Protecting your basement from groundwater is a bit more challenging and can be expensive. A basement contractor can dig a trench to your foundation walls from outside, and apply a sealant to the exterior below-ground walls. They should also backfill the trench with gravel and sand to improve drainage, and they can put in drainage tile at the bottom to draw groundwater down below the floor of your basement.

A more affordable option, if you have exposed masonry in your basement, is to scrub down the masonry to a hard, clean surface free of grit or mineral sweat, and use a parging compound to add waterproofing on the inside of your walls. This works for minor humidity problems but won’t solve serious basement moisture problems.

Any moisture you can avoid producing indoors will help cut down on humidity problems. You can’t stop breathing, but you can cook with lids on, and turn on the range hood when boiling water; you can cut back on showers or run the bathroom fan when showering; and be mindful of aquariums, decorative fountains, and other possible humidity sources.

If winter humidity is a problemIf you have humidity problems in the winter and your home is recently built and well insulated, it is possible that your home is sealed too well. A well sealed home cuts your heating costs, but if it’s too well sealed moisture will build up, as will off-gassing from synthetics, woods, carpets, and other materials that may harm your health. You might consider buying a heat exchanger rather than a dehumidifier if this is your problem. Heat exchangers let air flow in and out of your house, while keeping the heat in as the exhaust air is blown out.

Before go out and buy a dehumidifier to solve moisture problems that can’t be solved by the tips above, you should understand how humidifiers work, their rankings, how ENERGY STAR dehumidifiers are ranked, and how to choose the best model for your situation.

Dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air using a compressor, condenser coils, and fan. They work the same way a refrigerator works, except that their cooling power is used to condense water out of the air. Dehumidifiers have a humidistat that keeps them on until the moisture reaches a set lower level, or until the tank fills up, whichever happens first.

Dehumidifiers are grouped based on extraction capacity — how much humidity they extract from the air per day — and by tank capacity — how much water they hold. In the United States, extraction capacity is rated in pints per day and capacity is measured in quarts. In most other countries, extraction capacity is rated in liters per day and capacity in liters.

Once your tank fills up, the dehumidifier will not extract any water from the air until you empty the tank. If you place your dehumidifier near a basement floor drain, you can run a hose from the tank to the drain, so that you never need to empty the tank. (Most dehumidifiers come with an opening for a hose.) If you can’t do this in the room where you’re putting the dehumidifier, make sure you buy a unit with adequate tank capacity.

The energy factor for dehumidifiers is the number of liters or pints of water removed from the air per kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity used. The higher the energy factor value, the more efficient the dehumidifier is.  So bigger is better — unlike the efficiency rankings for most other types of appliances.

ENERGY STAR dehumidifiers have energy factors ranging from 3.56 (excellent) to 1.2 (marginally efficient) with a median rating of 1.62. Only two companies, Therma-Stor Products and Munters Corporation, make dehumidifiers with an energy factor better than 2.2.

But bear in mind that an ENERGY STAR rating does not mean the dehumidifier is all that efficient — just more efficient than some others in its class. For example, ENERGY STAR rated dehumidifiers can have an energy factor of as little as 1.2, while the best score is 2.02 and the worst for a non ENERGY STAR dehumidifier is 1.0.

Always buy a dehumidifier that can handle the amount of humidity in your house. You probably do not require a pints-per-day rating above 25 unless your basement is sopping wet and at least 1,200 square feet in area, wet and at least 1,500 square feet, or usually damp and mildewy (but not wet) with at least 1,800 square feet.

On the other hand, ENERGY STAR units that can withdraw more moisture are typically more energy efficient because of the different capacity thresholds used to rate dehumidifierS. So don’t skimp and buy too low a capacity unit — overestimate rather than underestimate.

If your basement is very cool, buy a dehumidifier built to handle lower temperatures. Otherwise, the cold basement will cause frost buildup on the coils, which reduces their efficiency and may cause the motor to short cycle. If notice this short cycling, turn the dehumidifier off until the ice has melted and fallen into the tank. If the behavior persists you may need to replace the unit with a unit built for cooler temperatures.

Assuming you do own or buy a new dehumidifier, you’ll want to reduce your energy costs with whatever dehumidifier you own.

If your basement is humid, and the dehumidifier is on, keep the doors to the basement closed so damp air doesn’t creep in from upstairs.

Keep your dehumidifier coils and fan clean and free of dust. Some dehumidifiers include a washable air filter you can clean to get rid of dust build-up; if you have one, keep it clean.

If you replace an old dehumidifier with a new, properly sized energy efficient dehumidifier, and you tackle your moisture sources as best you can, you could reduce your electricity use by half or even two thirds over what you were paying before for the same level of comfort. But more likely, you’ll use a little less energy with a new and improved dehumidifier, while controlling your humidity more effectively, or you’ll use more energy (if you didn’t have a dehumidifier) but you’ll be far more comfortable and won’t be spending a fortune on electricity.

With all the news surfacing about the health effects of indoor dampness and the resulting mold and mildew, you’ll definitely benefit from addressing your humidity problems and buying an energy efficient dehumidifier. You’ll save money and be healthier.

A Brief History Of Electronic Money

A Brief History Of Electronic Money

Electronic money is a recent invention which means that currency with real value can be exchanged for traditional cash; it is instead entirely virtual or digital. It is a new invention in the history of money and commerce. Electronic money only exists in digital format and is primarily based on the internet or smart cards that have a record of their stored value. The transactions which are electronically done are known as electronic money. Similar names for electronic money are electronic cash, e-money, digital money, digital currency or digital cash.

The computer age has made the creation of money possible. It began back in the 1960s when IBM and American Airlines created a system called SABRE (Semi-Automatic Busines Research Environment), this allowed offices of American Airlines fitted with terminals connected to telephone lines and helped agencies to check flight times, seat availability, and then make reservations electronically that could be paid by using a system of credits.

Banks in America and Europe has started using mainframe computers by the 1970s, it helped them track transactions. It was a system that proved to be a success internationally when currency exchange was needed.

Consumer uptake of electronic money was first noticed in France in 1982 with the introduction of the Minitel service. The US and UK had developed basic tele text service that helped televisions to display text directly onto the television screen like news, program guides, game show results or weather update. The teletext was a very useful and simple one way service.

The French Minitel service used a dumb terminal with built-in modem, the service operated over standard telephone lines and the terminals were equipped with full AZERTY keyboards. The subscribers typed messages or searched queries. These Minitel terminals were given for free to more than 9 million households to encourage business entrepreneurs. Payment could be made through credit card or charged to the telephone account. This marked the first use of electronic money in the consumer market.

In 1979, a slightly similar service was launched in the UK named Prestel. It supported equipment was costly and it required customers to call and arrange payment over the phone. A service known as Homelink started in 1983 with the support of the Bank of Scotland and Nottingham Building Society. The account holders could subscribe to a special Prestel service that allowed online banking. This marked the first recorded use of electronic money.

The year 1991 saw the introduction of internet in consumer market and the disbanding of the Arpanet network. It wasn’t long until 1992 when America Online took advantage of the new Internet and started offering retail services directly to their subscribers who could pay using a credit card.

The year 1994 took a leap of faith that internet would help businesses. Pizza Hut adopted a same model that was used by Peapod for allowing online pizza ordering with the choice of payments like credit card via internet or in cash on delivery.

Late 1990s proved to be an essential moment for electronic money. Amazon.com was launched in 1995 and PayPal was formed in 1998. This made convenient and easy payment of money online without any risk of credit card number theft. The innovation of PayPal was to offer virtual account to the customers that could be topped up using credit card or wire transfer. Then email addresses were used to receive and send money. The services of PayPal marked a unique beginning of electronic money which was different from traditional phone and online credit card transactions.

Furthermore, the model of PayPal was copied by other providers with new ideas for securing customer funds using gold standard, silver, platinum or palladium. However sending and receiving payments with an email address was flexible.

Virtual currency backed by precious metals can be exchanged for any supported currency. eLibertyReserve, e-gold and Webmoney have become the biggest gold backed electronic money providers.

Private currencies had also proliferated encouraged by the demand for some form or marketplace within networked games like World of Warcraft and Second Life. Since then, private currencies have developed in many forums and webmaster services as a means of offering advertising amongst members.

The most successful electronic money has been facilitated with stored value cards that are denominated in local currency. The US military designed a stored value card called Eagle Cash that provided an advance on soldier’s earnings. Hong Kong also designed a stored value card for making quick purchase of subway tickets also accepted as a defacto cash card by many retailers in the city.
